Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has threatened to take legal action against a website that published an article citing his name in the ongoing Perth Test between India and Australia.
A website titled ‘Cricket Ception’ published a column under Gavaskar's name with the headline 'A New Era in Leadership: Bumrah’s Captaincy and Kohli’s Leadership Revive Team India'.
Gavaskar refuted the same on Saturday (November 23), clarifying that it was fake as he had not written any such piece.
Taking to Instagram, Gavaskar shared a video to slam the website. “Never believe everything you see on the Internet,” he captioned the post.
Before the Perth Test, Sunil Gavaskar had suggested that Jasprit Bumrah should captain India for the entire five-match series if Rohit Sharma misses the first two games.
Notably, Rohit is not featuring in the series opener due to the birth of his second child. He is likely to join the team ahead of the second Test in Adelaide, due to start on December 6.
"It is important for the captain to play the first Test match. It's different if he is injured, but if he is not available, then the deputy leader will be under a lot of pressure. I have been reading that Rohit Sharma might not play the first two Tests of the Australia series. I feel that, in that case the selection committee should appoint Jasprit Bumrah the captain of the side for the entire Australia tour, and tell Rohit Sharma that you will participate as a player in this series. For the first Test match, Rohit Sharma has to be there," Gavaskar had said while speaking to Sports Tak.
Coming to the Perth Test, as many as 17 wickets fell on the opening day of the match. Opting to bat first, India’s first innings folded for a paltry 150, with the Aussie quicks namely Josh Hazlewood (4-29), Mitchell Starc (2-14), Pat Cummins (2-67) and Mitchell Marsh (2-12) sharing the wickets among them.
In response, the visitors reduced the hosts to 67/7 at stumps. The Indian bowlers wrapped up the Australian innings for 104 in the first session on Day 2 to gain a handy lead of 46 runs. While Bumrah returned with a five-wicket haul (5-30), Harshit Rana (3-48) and Mohammed Siraj (2-20) claimed the remaining five scalps between them.
