“Mehnat karte reh”- Rinku Singh reveals Rohit Sharma’s words to him after T20 World Cup 2024 snub

Rinku Singh was a traveling reserve in Indian team for T20 World Cup 2024.

Rinku Singh and Rohit Sharma | XRinku Singh, one of the most sensational T20 batters in India, recalled encouraging words from India captain Rohit Sharma after he was snubbed from the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. Rinku was however named as one of the four traveling reserves.

The 26-year-old revealed information about his conversation with former India T20I captain Rohit Sharma. Rohit encouraged him to keep working hard, saying that there is a World Cup every two years.

"Haan woh (Rohit Sharma) aaye the samjane ki koi baat nahi, teri umar hi kya hai. World Cup aage bohot hai. Mehnat karte reh. Har do saal mein World Cup aata hai, uspe dhyaan de. Koi dikaat nahi hai, pareshan mat ho [He came to me and made me understand that it was okay, you are quite young. There will be many many World Cups in the future. Keep on working hard. There is a World Cup every two years, focus on that. Don't be disappointed]," Rinku told News24.

Despite his breakout results, Rinku was not selected for India's national squad, which became one of the talking topics ahead of the competition. However, India won the T20 World Cup 2024, ending the country's 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

Rohit's insightful remarks will boost Rinku's confidence, and with age on his side, he will be hoping to secure his berth in the forthcoming T20 World Cup in 2026.

Rinku also hailed Rohit for his captaincy and also acknowledged Virat Kohli's aggressive style of leadership.

"I like Rohit Sharma's captaincy. I like Virat Kohli as well because aggression is very important while leading a team. So, his captaincy was also very good,” Rinku added.

Rinku Singh is currently playing in the UP T20 League where he is leading the Meerut Mavericks. His side opened their campaign with a seven-wicket win over Kashi Rudras in Lucknow on Sunday.
