Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi expressed gratitude for receiving all the congratulatory messages on becoming the "youngest grandfather".

Pakistan's star pacer Shaheen Afridi and his wife Ansha Afridi, one of the daughters of Shahid, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, on Saturday (August 24).

Shaheen is currently playing a Test match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, and will return to Karachi to meet his newborn son and wife after the end of the game.

Social media was flooded with congratulatory messages and kind wishes for the Afridi family, which let Shahid overwhelmed.

"Have been receiving messages full of love from all our friends on becoming the youngest grandfather in the world of cricket. My family and I thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for joining us in our happiness," the 47-year-old wrote on X.

Earlier, Pakistan Test coach Jason Gillespie had said that Shaheen Afridi could miss the series opener against Bangladesh for his childbirth. However, he participated in the ongoing Rawalpindi Test.

On Day 4 of the Test match, Shaheen celebrated the birth of his first child with a unique gesture. While the left-arm quick usually celebrates after taking a wicket by raising his arms in the air, he took out the cradling celebration this time after dismissing Hasan Mahmud.

Shaheen later got the wicket of Mehidy Hasan Miraz to finish with the figures of 30-3-88-2 in Bangladesh’s first innings.
