Delhi Capitals (DC) have reportedly approached former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh for a coaching role ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction.
Earlier this month, the franchise parted ways with Australian legend Ricky Ponting, drawing curtains on their seven-year long association.
According to a report published in Sportstar, the Capitals are keen to bring Yuvraj on board although the final decision is yet to be announced.
Earlier, reports had claimed that Yuvraj was in reckoning to replace Ashish Nehra as the coach of Gujarat Titans (GT).
However, sources close to Sportstar claimed that Nehra is likely to continue in his role and the Titans are mulling their options to replace Gary Kirsten, who is now the head coach of Pakistan cricket team.
While Yuvraj has no prior coaching experience, has worked closely with a few Punjab cricketers like Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma among others.
Yuvraj Singh represented India in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India. He was a key member of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup campaigns.
During Ponting’s tenure, Delhi Capitals reached the knockouts thrice in seven seasons but failed to lift their maiden IPL title. They exited the playoffs in 2019 and 2021, and finished runners-up in 2020.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 edition, the franchise is planning to overhaul its coaching set-up, with former India captain Sourav Ganguly at the helm as the Director of Cricket.
There was speculation that Ganguly could double up as the head coach and the Director of Cricket, but the DC management is reportedly hesitant to give him dual responsibilities.
