BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday (August 21) expressed his confidence in the Indian teams' ability to win more ICC trophies going forward.

Earlier this year, Shah had predicted that the India team will hoist the national flag in Barbados after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. As it turned out, the Men in Blue went on to clinch the title and skipper Rohit Sharma planted the Indian flag on the turf of Kensington Oval.

Shah is now expecting the Indian teams – men and women – to bring home the next three ICC trophies as well.

The Indian women’s team will take part in the T20 World Cup 2024 in UAE two months later. Having finished runners-up in 2020, Harmanpreet Kaur and her troops will be determined to claim the title for the first time in their history.

Next year, the Indian men’s team will be eying winning the Champions Trophy and also hope to qualify for the World Test Championship final.

“What next? I would like to remind everyone what I said before the T20 World Cup, that Rohit Sharma will plant the Indian flag at Barbados and he did,” Shah said while speaking at the CEAT awards event.

“When you have 1.4 billion people’s blessings, I can say we will do the same in the Champions Trophy, World Test Championship final and Women’s T20 World Cup,” he added.

Jay Shah was conferred with the award for ‘excellence in sports administration’ at the cricket awards ceremony.

“I dedicate the award to all our women players, our 2023 ODI runners-up team and the 2024 T20 World Cup team,” Shah said.

Rohit Sharma, who was named the men's international cricketer of the year at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards, thanked Jay Shah, former head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar for their unwavering support.

"It was my dream to transform this team and not worry too much about the stats, the results, to make sure that we create that environment where people can go out there and play freely without thinking too much," Rohit said at the event.

"That is what was required. I got a lot of help from my three pillars, who are actually Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar," he added.
