India captain Rohit Sharma has moved to the second spot in the latest update of the ICC ODI players rankings. This comes after his exemplarity performance in the recent three-match ODI series between Sri Lanka and India in the island nation.
India lost the ODI series to Sri Lanka 2-0 with the first ODI ending in a tie. This was the first time in 27 years since 1997 that India had lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka.
This made a huge impact on the ICC ODI player's rankings. In the ODI batting rankings, Rohit Sharma overtook Shubman Gill to become the no.2 ranked batter. This was after his 167 runs in the three ODIs, including two half-centuries.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka moved to the 8th spot after his 101 runs in the ODI series. Shubman Gill fell to the no.3 spot, while Virat Kohli remained static at the no.4 spot in ICC ODI batting rankings, which are headed by Pakistan’s Babar Azam.
There was also some movement on the latest Test player rankings, following the draw between the West Indies and South Africa in Trinidad.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma finds a new career-high rating and improves two places to 16th on the list following scores of 86 and 15*. Tony de Zorzi gains 29 places to improve to 85th following an excellent 78 in the first innings.
South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj was the biggest gainer in the latest list for Test bowlers. He picked a total of 8 wickets in the Tests and rose seven spots to rise to equal 21st as a result.
