India captain Rohit Sharma has made big gains in the ICC ODI batting rankings. The latest update on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, sees him inch closer to No. 1 ranked Babar Azam of Pakistan.

Rohit is the leading run-scorer in India's three-match series against Sri Lanka, scoring two half-centuries and 122 runs at an impressive strike rate of 134.06.

The 37-year-old helped himself to a quickfire 64 in the second game of the series in Colombo, moving up one spot in the ODI batter rankings to third in the most recent update on Wednesday.

Rohit's overall rating rises to 763 rating points, leaving the right-hander just 61 rating points behind Babar in the fight for the world's top ODI batters ranking.

Shubman Gill remains in second place after scoring only 51 runs in his first two matches against Sri Lanka, while Akshar Patel, who has 77 runs from two games against the island nation, moves up 35 places in the revised ODI batter rankings.

India spinner Kuldeep Yadav also gained five spots to get back into the top 5 of the ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings. Kuldeep claimed good figures of 2/33 from the second match of the series and that helped the 29-year-old improve to equal fourth place behind South Africa's Keshav Maharaj on the list for ODI bowlers.

Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage rises five spots to 76th, while Akshar moves up 37 places to 96th with a clean spell of 1/36 in the series' second encounter.
