Pakistan assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has said that he’ll take legal action against those spreading false allegations about his family following Pakistan's early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024.
According to an ANI report quoting Geo News sources, skipper Babar Azam intends to take legal action against YouTubers and former cricketers who accused him of 'misconduct' during the T20 World Cup campaign. According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board is collecting evidence relating to these statements.
Journalist Mubasher Luqman levelled serious allegations when in a video shared on YouTube, he claimed that the Babar received expensive gifts including an Audi E-Tron and apartments in Australia and Dubai and deliberately underperformed, costing his side matches.
Luqman said that the automobile Babar received was a bribe, resulting in the former champions losing to T20 World Cup debutants United States of America (USA) in their first match of the competition.
And now, Azhar Mahmood expressed his distress over these claims and emphasized their baseless nature, urging people to avoid engaging with such narratives.
"I have heard some false allegations and narratives circulating on social media and other media platforms. I categorically state that these allegations are entirely baseless and false, and it is extremely upsetting to hear them," Mahmood wrote on X.
Mahmood stated that speaking without evidence and misinterpreting facts is a criminal violation. He blasted the trend of garnering media attention through false charges and stated his desire to seek legal counsel.
"This culture of falsely accusing and misleading people to believe a false narrative is now getting ridiculous and dangerous. Speaking without evidence and misconstruing facts is a criminal offense, and those engaging in such behavior will be dealt with through legal action.
Pursuing an increase in followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is downright unacceptable. I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me and my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media. I urge everyone to avoid engaging with or entertaining these harmful narratives as it is essential to put an end to such behavior in our media culture," Mahmood added.
