"Even 50-55 lakhs is a lot”- Rinku Singh on his IPL salary and how he stays grounded

Rinku Singh will travel to New York to join Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 as reserve.

Rinku Singh | KKR XIndia and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh said that he knows the value of money and doesn’t have any qualms over earning less money in the Indian Premier League than many of his peers.

Rinku, who comes from a very humble background said that he was happy with the Rs 55 lakh that he was earning every season. He added that when he started playing cricket he did not imagine that he would be earning this much money.

Rinku was picked up by KKR in the IPL 2018 auction for Rs 80 lakh. He was released and then bought back by KKR in IPL 2022 for INR 55 lakhs. Rinku has been a vital cog in the KKR batting unit since then and recently won the IPL 2024 with the franchise.

Not only this, Rinku was named in BCCI's annual retainership contract in 2024 which makes him eligible for Rs 1 crore per year.

"Even 50-55 lakhs is a lot. When I started, I had not even thought that I would earn so much. At that time, I was a kid and if I got even 5-10 rupees, I thought I would get it somehow. Now I am getting 55 lakh rupees, so this is a lot, I should be happy with whatever God gives me. This is my thinking. I don't think at all that I should have got this much money or that much. I am very happy even with 55 lakh rupees. When I didn't have this, I realized the value of money," Rinku Singh told Dainik Jagran in an interview.

Asked about how he stays grounded, Rinku said that he had a simple mantra in life. Rinku said that it was important to stay grounded.

"If I tell you the truth today, then all this is an illusion. You did not bring anything with you, nor will you take anything with you. You never know when times will change. I would like to say that you have to go back the same way you came. Stay grounded, what else," Rinku said.

Rinku Singh will soon leave for the USA to join the Indians squad as a reserve for the T20 World Cup 2024.
