Ahead of the India v Australia Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, India A and Australia A will clash in two 4-day matches to give players on the fringes of both sides a chance to press their claims.
India will play a five-Test series in Australia for the first time since the 1991-92 tour. The series will see the first Test start on Nov 22 in Perth. The second Test will be a day/night affair and will be played in Adelaide from December 6. The third Test will begin on December 14 and will be played in Brisbane.
The fourth Test will be the Boxing Day Test at MCG, starting from December 26 and the final Test will begin on January 3 in Sydney.
India has a run of five home Tests before heading to Australia with two matches against Bangladesh and three against New Zealand on the FTP from late September to early November. On the other hand, Australia will come into the Test series after playing ODIs against Pakistan.
The two games are scheduled to be played at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay and the MCG from October 31-November 3 and November 7 to 10 respectively, Cricket Australia said.
CA confirmed both 'A' series matches would have first-class status, as has been the case in their past three series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
“Hosting those A matches at the upgraded Great Barrier Reef Arena and the MCG give these ‘A’ matches significant status and will provide great opportunities to players from both sides to put up their hand for selection,” said Peter Roach, CA Head of Cricket Operations and Scheduling.
The Indian team will also play a three-day intra-squad match at the WACA Ground from November 17. India had played warm-up matches against Australia A in their previous tour Down Under in 2020-21 as well.
The India women's team are also touring Australia for three ODIs in early December which will be played around the second men's Test in Adelaide.
Australia hasn’t won a Test series against India since 2017 and lost all past four series 2-1, including two at home in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
