India skipper Rohit Sharma is quite a character. His one-liners caught on stump mic often spark memes on social media.

During the third T20I series against Afghanistan in January this year, Rohit had said something to the umpire, leaving commentators and the fans in splits.

The Indian captain came into the third T20I on the back of successive ducks in the first two games. As Rohit faced the first delivery in the series finale from Fareed Ahmad, the umpire signalled four leg byes. However, he was certain that the ball touched his bat.

Rohit Sharma was left a bit bemused by the four leg byes and he did let the umpire know about it in his unique style.

"Arey viru, thigh-pad diya kya pehla four? Bat laga tha! (Hey Viru, did you signal for the thigh pad on the first four? I hit that with my bat!)," stump mic had caught Rohit as saying.

Nearly two months later, Rohit on Tuesday (March 5) opened up on the incident, saying that the reaction stemmed from the fact that he had failed to open his account in the first two games.

"When you're coming off two zeros, we know how important scoring the first run is. I scored a four off the bat but the umpire probably didn't notice it and signalled them as leg byes. I usually don't look at the scoreboard much while batting. My mind is on batting, but when the over was completed, my eyes went up there and I saw that Rohit Sharma still on 0. I was like 'I just scored a four. How is it still zero?' So, I asked him 'Viru, did you give it off the thigh pad?'," Rohit said during an event in Bilaspur.

On being asked if he has a favourite among his long list of one-liners, Rohit Sharma replied that he doesn't plan such things.

"See, I don't have any favourite line as such and I don't even do it deliberately. Now I am the captain so I stand in the slips, because the angle from there helps me get a better look at the fielders and take stock of DRS. So I keep talking to the fielders and it gets recorded," he said.

Rohit Sharma is widely regarded as one of the best captains in the modern-day game. Under his leadership, India won the Asia Cup last year and made it to the World Cup 2023 final without losing a single match.

Last week, Rohit captained India to a series-clinching victory over England in the fourth Test match at Ranchi. The hosts managed to beat the Ben Stokes-led side despite missing the services of several first-choice players, including Virat Kohli.

Rohit is currently in Dharamsala to lead India in the fifth and final Test against England, starting on March 7.
