Veteran India pacer Mohammad Shami was recently asked to pick the best batter in the world and he took the name of teammate Virat Kohli.
In his reply, Shami also mentioned Rohit Sharma, hailing the Indian captain as the most dangerous batter in the world.
“Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the world. He has just broken a lot of records. I feel Virat is the best but if you ask me who the most dangerous batter in the world is, I would say Rohit Sharma,” Shami said in an interview with News18.
On the other hand, Shami named the legendary MS Dhoni as the best captain and also explained his choice.
“It’s different for everyone. Everything comes down to comparison. Obviously you will go with the person who is most successful. So, I’ll go with Mahendra Singh Dhoni because whatever he has achieved, no one has been able to eclipse that,” Shami stated.
Dhoni is the only skipper in the history of cricket to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies – 2007 World T20, 2011 Cricket World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy. He also led India to the pinnacle in Test cricket.
While Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, he continues to feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He captained CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title last year.
Coming to Shami, he has been out of action since his stellar performance in the 2023 World Cup. The right-arm quick picked up an ankle injury soon after the showpiece tournament and couldn’t travel to South Africa for the red-ball series.
Shami is yet to recover completely and was not considered for selection in the first two Tests of the ongoing five-match series against England at home.
