Last year, former pacer Venkatesh Prasad emerged as a staunch critic of the Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul. He posted long threads on social media, criticizing the Indian team management for giving under-fire Rahul a long rope in the side.
However, Rahul has silenced his critics ever since his comeback to the team following a long injury layoff. He shone in India's Asia Cup triumph, played his role to perfection in the middle-order in the 2023 World Cup and recently led India to an ODI series win in South Africa.
Rahul then carried his brilliance to the longest format as he slammed a stunning century on a tough pitch in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
On Sunday (December 31), Prasad acknowledged Rahul’s wonderful display in 2023, saying that the Indian batter had a great year in ODIs and should aspire to fulfill his true potential.
“He has had a great year in one day cricket and in his comeback test in centurion played a wonderful knock in the first innings. Happy for him. Consistency in Test Cricket and realising his true potential is what he needs to aspire for imho,” Prasad wrote on social media platform ‘X’.
KL Rahul finished 2023 with 1203 runs in 29 innings across all formats for India. He made those runs at an average of 57.28 while smashing three hundreds and seven half-centuries.
