Former England captain Kevin Pietersen shared his views on which era of cricket was the greatest and his thoughts got the cricket fandom on social media thinking about the same. Kevin Pietersen name-dropped a bunch of former cricketers that he has grown up watching.

Cricket in the present era has become incredibly fleeting, with all of the glitz and glam surrounding it. With the rise of franchise leagues, particularly the IPL, players have leaned more towards the money, with only a small number of people preferring the longer formats.

The emergence of T20 cricket has also had a significant impact on the current situation of cricket. Though it has added an element of excitement, it is no longer what it once was.

However, the expansion of cricket has not been as rapid as it should have been, but we will undoubtedly see another amazing story like Afghanistan's in the coming years.

Kevin Pietersen wondered whether the cricket from the 1990s-2010s was the best with some of the greatest batters and bowlers playing the game at the same time. He certainly felt that cricket has surpassed its greatest era a long time ago.

He posted: “When was the greatest era in cricket? I think it was when we had players like: Warne, Lee, Pigeon, Ponting, Hayden, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwar, Aamir Sohail, Mushy, Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Srinath, Ranatunga, De Silva, Murali, Mahela, Kumar, Vaas, Fleming, Bond, Vettori, Astle, Kallis, Donald, Pollock, Kirsten, Cronje, Jonty, Ambrose, Walsh, Lara, Flintoff, Trescothick, Vaughan, Streak, Flowers.”

Pietersen himself is considered to be one of the best in the 2000s. Kevin Pietersen retired after scoring 13,797 runs for England across all formats. He scored 8181 runs in Tests, 4440 in ODIs, and 1176 runs in the shortest format.
