Suryakumar Yadav | XStand-in India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly suffered a serious ankle injury, which happened during the final T20I against South Africa in Johannesburg.

Suryakumar had rolled his ankle while trying to throw the ball and had to leave the field with Ravindra Jadeja taking command of the side. India won the T20I by over 100 runs and leveled the 3-match series 1-1 after the first match was rained out.

Now as per a report in Indian Express, Suryakumar Yadav has a Grade-II tear in his ankle and has been ruled out of action for seven weeks.

The report stated that Suryakumar had a scan on returning to India and it revealed the extent of the injury and if everything goes to plan, he should be fit by the first week of February. This means that the no.1 ranked T20I batter will miss the 3-match T20I series at home against Afghanistan in January.

He will take some time to recover. He will have to report to the National Cricket Academy later to do his rehabilitation. He is surely going to miss the Afghanistan series,” a BCCI source told Indian Express.

Surya was handed the T20I captaincy as Hardik Pandya was yet to recover from his ankle injury suffered during the 50-over World Cup. The all-rounder is yet to return to action.

With both Hardik and Suryakumar out, BCCI will have to search for a new captain for Afghanistan series as it begins just days after the Test series in South Africa ends.
