Ahead of the first Test in Perth which begins on December 14, Pakistan have faced a huge injury scare after their ace spinner Abrar Ahmed complained of discomfort in his right leg. Currently, Pakistan is engaged in a practice match against PM XI in Canberra.

The mystery spinner bowled only 8 overs on the third day of Pakistan’s warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra after which he was taken off the park. Abrar bowled 27 overs in the first innings and picked up the wicket of Marcus Harris.

“Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed complained of discomfort in his right leg after bowling eight overs on the third day of a four-day game against Prime Minister’s XI. As a result, the 25-year-old was taken off the field. Following his complaint, Abrar was sent for an MRI scan. Further details will be shared in due course after medical panel assesses the MRI reports,” PCB said in a press release.

Newly-appointed Pakistan Test skipper Shan Masood lauded Abrar for playing a crucial role for the national team since his debut last year. In six Tests thus far, Abrar has picked up 38 wickets with two five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul to his name.

"Abrar has done well for us, he's taken a lot of wickets against good sides, and we'll be hoping he does the same on this tour," Masood was quoted as saying.

Pakistan also has Nouman Ali as a second specialist spinner in the squad, with Saud Shakeel and Salman Agha as spin all-rounders.
