Rohit Sharma | GettyTop BCCI officials recently conducted a meeting with India skipper Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid and the selection panel to discuss various things about Indian cricket.

India’s loss to Australia in the World Cup 2023 final was reviewed in the meeting. The T20I, ODI and Test squads for the South Africa tour were also picked during the meeting.

Among the board officials, secretary Jay Shah, VP Rajeev Shukla and treasurer Ashish Shelar were present in the meeting that took place in New Delhi on Thursday (November 30).

The board officials wanted to know the roadmap going forward, especially with the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in June next year.

According to a Dainik Jagran report, Rohit – who attended the meeting via video call from London – asked the officials and the selectors if they wanted him to be a part of the upcoming T20 World Cup then they should tell him now.

“If you want to select me for the T20 World Cup then tell me now how to go about it,” said Rohit in the meeting according to an official present in the meeting, as reported by Dainik Jagran.

As per the report, the board officials, coach Dravid and the selectors agreed unanimously that Rohit is the right man to lead the team in the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to be played in West Indies and USA.

The report added that the selectors wanted Rohit to captain the T20I side in the upcoming tour of South Africa but the veteran opener requested a break from the entire white-ball leg.

Rohit Sharma’s wish was granted by the selectors and Suryakumar Yadav was named captain for the three-match T20I series, starting December 10. On the other hand, KL Rahul was appointed captain for the ODI series against South Africa.
