Adam Gilchrist denied evert saying Kohli was rested to protect Tendulkar's ODI records | GettyLegendary Australian keeper Adam Gilchrist has categorically denied his alleged statement over Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar’s record which has been doing rounds on social media.

Allegedly Adam Gilchrist was quoted saying that Indian team management has been resting Virat Kohli so frequently in the past year or so to protect Sachin Tendulkar’s records in ODI cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most centuries, most runs, and most matches played in ODI cricket. In 463 ODIs, he scored 18426 runs with 49 centuries and 96 fifties at an average of 44.83 from 1989-2012.

Thus far, Virat Kohli has played 280 ODIs, scoring 13027 runs with 47 centuries and 65 fifties at an average of 57.38.

Given these stats, Kohli needs only 2 more centuries in ODIs to equal Tendulkar’s record and three to break the record and become the first batter in ODI history to make 50 tons.

With one ODI against Australia and 9 matches in the upcoming World Cup, excluding the semi-final and the final, Kohli can easily break the record.

Meanwhile, an X user Lokesh Saini shared an alleged quote from Adam Gilchrist where he said: "Kohli is being rested on a regular basis these days, I think they want Sachin's record to be unbeaten."

The user was not able to provide any source for the quote and the confirmation that it was fake came from none other than Adam Gilchrist himself, who quoted this post and said: “Never said this.”
