The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has uploaded a new video on social media, showcasing its cricketing journey for the promotional campaign leading up to ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

PCB’s earlier video didn’t feature the legendary captain Imran Khan. As a result, the board faced severe backlash from the fans and former cricketers alike, forcing them to release a new video on Thursday (August 17).

In the latest video, PCB added a couple of moments of Imran from the 1992 World Cup and mentioned that the earlier clip was abridged due to the length.

“The PCB has launched a promotional campaign leading up to the CWC 2023. One of the videos was uploaded on 14th August 2023. Due to its length, the video was abridged and some important clips were missing. This has been rectified in the complete version of the video," the PCB captioned the video.

Earlier, the PCB came under the scanner for aligning with the nation's ruling coalition's "political agenda". Legendary names such as Wasim Akram demanded the immediate removal of the video and an official apology.

“After long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB’s short clip on the history of Pakistan cricket minus the great Imran Khan… political differences apart but Imran Khan is an icon of world cricket and developed Pakistan into a strong unit in his time and gave us a pathway… PCB should delete the video and apologise,” Akram wrote on X.

After his retirement from cricket in 1992, Imran Khan entered politics and became the country’s Prime Minister in 2018.

Imran was, however, ousted from the top office in 2022 and has since embattled a series of legal troubles. He was recently sentenced to three years of imprisonment which disqualified him from political involvement due to ‘corrupt practices’. The former Pakistan skipper is currently imprisoned in Attock Jail.
