Ashes 2023: Cricket fraternity hails Stuart Broad’s illustrious career as England pacer bids adieu to international cricket

Broad is one of the five bowlers to take over 600 wickets in Test history.

Stuart Broad | GettyEngland pacer Stuart Broad has announced his decision to draw the curtains on his illustrious cricket career following the fifth Ashes Test against Australia at The Oval.

Broad made his international debut back in 2006 and soon established himself as England’s go-to fast bowler across formats. In particular, he made a mark with red ball and achieved numerous milestones in the longest format of the game.

In Test cricket, Broad picked up 602 wickets in 167 matches and also made handy contributions with the bat, scoring 3656 runs at an average of 18 with one century and 13 fifties. He ranks as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Test history and second among English bowlers.

In the white-ball formats, Broad played a key role as well, taking 178 wickets from 121 ODIs. He is the fourth-highest wicket-taker for England in the 50-over format. Moreover, Broad secured 65 wickets in 56 T20Is and was part of England’s maiden T20 World Cup triumph in 2010.

As soon as Stuart Broad confirmed his retirement after the third day’s play at The Oval, social media flooded with messages of appreciation for the legendary fast bowler.

Taking to micro-blogging site X, former and current players from different parts of the world paid rich tributes to Broad’s remarkable international career.
