England pacer Jofra Archer, who has been struggling with injuries for a while, is "on course" to feature in the ODI World Cup in India later this year, his club coach said on Wednesday (July 26).

"He is going well," Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace told the BBC. "I think he is on course for the World Cup, which is fantastic news."

Archer played a key role in England’s ODI World Cup triumph on home soil in 2019. However, the right-arm quick has become injury-prone in the last couple of years, having undergone several elbow operations and suffering a stress fracture of the back.

"He is going nicely," added Farbrace of Jofra, who played his last Test for India in February 2021.

Jofra Archer returned to international cricket in January this year after more than a year on the sidelines due to elbow and back issues. He played in the SA20 and then the ODI series in South Africa, before moving to India for the IPL 2023.

Archer made a belated debut for Mumbai Indians (MI), but only played a handful of matches. In between, he flew to Belgium to consult the doctor about his elbow issues and despite playing one more game for MI after return, he was ruled out of the tournament and returned home.

Later, the scans revealed a recurrence of a stress fracture to his right elbow which forced him out of this summer’s Ashes series.

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is slated to get underway on October 5 with the England versus New Zealand clash in Ahmedabad.
