India pacer Mohammed Siraj was released from the ODI squad ahead of the first ODI against West Indies which begins on July 27, 2023, in Bridgetown, Barbados. India is slated to play three ODIs and five T20Is on the remainder of the Caribbean tour.
Siraj was the Player of the Match in the second Test in Trinidad after picking a five-wicket haul for India as the Test was drawn due to rain on day five. Siraj, who is not part of the T20I squad for the Caribbean tour, picked up seven wickets in the two Tests.
He had also played in the WTC 2023 final against Australia at the Oval and picked 5 wickets in the encounter along with a four-wicket haul in the first innings.
While it was reported that Siraj has been given a rest keeping his workload in mind, the BCCI gave an update on the situation and revealed that the Hyderabad pacer had complained of a sore ankle and hence was sent back to India.
