“There’s no Fab 4 right now, there’s Fab 3,” Aakash Chopra leaves out Virat Kohli from his list of ‘Fab 4’ batters in world cricket

Kohli managed to hit just one century in Test cricket since 2020.

Virat Kohli | GettySteve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli are widely regarded as one of the best batters of the modern era. At one point in time, they were considered as ‘Fab 4’ of world cricket for their brilliance in Test cricket in different parts of the world.

Of late, Kohli’s form has dipped considerably while Root, Smith and Williamson have continued their red-ball glory.

Kohli endured an extended lean patch after the year 2020. He nearly went three years without hitting a century in all formats. While Virat managed to regain his white-ball form in the Asia Cup last year, he is yet to make a mark in Tests.

The 34-year-old has only managed to score just one century in the longest format since 2020, and his career average has fallen below 50 as well.

Amid his struggles, former Indian opener Aakash Chopra recently made a glaring remark, opining that Kohli doesn’t belong in the ‘Fab 4’ club anymore.

According to Chopra, ‘Fab 4’ no longer exists and he insisted that it’s a ‘Fab 3’ in Test cricket now.

“Kane and Joe Root, no question about it. Steve Smith, averaging 50 with six hundreds, no question about him. But David Warner and Virat Kohli, at this point of time, they are not a part of Fab 4. There’s no Fab 4 right now, there’s Fab 3," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

He also added that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam might make the cut for the Fab 4 considering his consistency in Test cricket.

“You might think of adding Babar Azam’s name in there. But while there’s no doubt that he has scored runs in Test cricket, I don’t think he is part of Fab 4 at the moment. I’m only talking about Test matches here," he further stated.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator feels Kohli might force his way back into the Fab 4 but David Warner has no chance.

“Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Steve Smith are there, but Virat Kohli has slipped out of that list, and so has Warner. Kohli might actually come back but I’m not sure about Warner. The latter’s Test career, I think, is coming to an end," he remarked.
