Virender Sehwag | TwitterLegendary India opener Virender Sehwag on Sunday (June 4) vowed to offer free education to the children of the tragic Odisha train accident victims.

The horrific triple train accident in Odisha's Balasore on Friday (June 2) killed at least 275 people and injured over 1,100.

It has been described as one of the worst accidents in the history of Indian Railways.

Taking to Twitter, Sehwag shared an image of the accident site with the caption, “This image will haunt us for a long time. In this hour of grief, the least I can do is to take care of education of children of those who lost their life in this tragic accident. I offer such children free education at Sehwag International School’s boarding facility.”

Two passenger trains — Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express— and a goods train were involved in the mishap that was triggered by a derailment.

The impact was so hard that coaches were lifted high into the air before they smashed onto the tracks. One coach was tossed on its roof. Seventeen coaches of the two trains were severely damaged.

Meanwhile, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, has announced a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the accident.
