Team India are slated to face Australia in the World Test Championship final at the Oval in London from June 7-11.

“Yes, the Afghanistan cricket team will undertake a short tour to India in June, after the World Test Championship final,” TOI quoted a BCCI source as saying.

The Indian team is due to tour West Indies in July. The tour will feature 10 games with the addition of two extra T20Is, starting with two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.

“The itinerary of Afghanistan’s short tour to India isn’t clear yet, but a formal announcement in this regard should be made by either of the boards soon,” the report further stated.

It is a significant development, hinting that the BCCI will continue to support Afghanistan cricket despite the takeover of Taliban there in August 2021. In the past, the Indian board has provided stadiums in Greater Noida, Dehradun and Lucknow as the home base of the Afghanistan cricket team.

Afghanistan had last toured India in 2018, when they played a solitary Test against the hosts and ended up losing it by an innings and 262 runs inside two days.
