Virat Kohli made his comeback to form with a brilliant maiden T20I century against Afghanistan in the 2023 Asia Cup in Dubai, and since then, the Indian batter has continued to rule the pitch with his bat.
The dashing right-hander made the whole cricket world dance to the tune of his bat when he smoked one of the finest knocks of his career in a group match against Pakistan at the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Kohli smashed a remarkable knock of an unbeaten 82 off 53 deliveries to help India beat Pakistan by 4 wickets and announced the arrival of his beat mode following a lean patch lasting nearly three years.
After this many believed it was the revival of Kohli's career, but former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq believes that the former Indian skipper regained his form in the 2023 Asia Cup itself.
Misbah told SportsYaari: “Temperament and self-belief; when you have these things, you can produce an innings like that (T20 WC 2022) . You think that was Virat's revival but I believe it began in the Asia Cup. He regained his touch in that tournament. Self-belief is very important.”
Speaking about Kohli’s T20 WC knock, Misbah said: “You needed around 40 runs in two overs against a top-class bowling attack on a tough wicket. Hardik Pandya is also a top-class player, but he lost his shape that day. He went hard but he couldn't middle the ball properly.”
He signed off by saying, “If you have the right temperament and remain focused, you can cash in on the opportunity. Kohli was in his zone, and the two sixes he hit against Haris Rauf changed the game.”
