Indian batter Prithvi Shaw and his friend’s cars were attacked outside a five-star hotel in Mumbai after the cricketer refused to give autographs and selfies to a group of people while dining. As per the report, Shaw’s car was attacked by baseball bats and the police have registered a case.
According to the complaint given by Shaw's friend Ashish Surendra Yadav, after attacking Shaw’s car, the accused followed them and then threatened false cases if money was not given.
Oshiwara Police have booked the eight people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly and using weapons for offence (143, 148,149, 384, 437, 504, 506) after the incident.
As per the India Today report, Shaw had gone to a five-star hotel in Santacruz for dinner when the unidentified accused came to their table and insisted on a selfie. Shaw obliged two people with selfies, but the same group returned again with the other accused and demanded more selfies.
Shaw refused this time saying he has come to eat food with friends and doesn't want to be disturbed. When they insisted, Prithvi's friend called the manager of the hotel and complained about them, according to the complaint.
The manager then asked the accused to leave the hotel and when Shaw and his friend left the premises, the angered accused were standing outside the hotel with baseball bats and vandalized the cricketer’s car and broke the front and rear windows of his friend’s vehicle.
The complainant said that Shaw was in the car, and we didn't want a dispute, so we sent Prithvi Shaw from another car, only to be chased by the accused.
Then Shaw's friend's car was stopped near Jogeshwari's Lotus petrol pump. Where a lady came and said that she needs to be paid Rs 50,000 if this matter is to be resolved otherwise, she will file false charges.
The complainant then came to Oshiwara Police station and filed a case, the police registered a case and started looking for the accused. The hotel staff took the names and contact numbers of people who had taken a selfie with Shaw and provided it to the police.
Prithvi Shaw was recently seen in India colors as he was recalled to the squad for the New Zealand T20I series, but couldn’t manage to get a game.
