Rashid Latif advises Indian team with regards to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's T20I future

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma haven't played a T20I after T20 World Cup 2022.

Indian management have moved forward in T20Is with new faces | TwitterIndian team management and BCCI selectors are pushing with their new idea of having youngsters in the T20I team under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya while seniors like KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli continue to sit out after the 2022 T20 World Cup outcome.

Though neither of the two (Rohit and Kohli) has expressed the desire to quit the shortest format, there's little to no clarity over their future.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has some advice for the Indian team management that they need to consider bringing in either Rohit or Kohli into the mix in order to give some guidance to the youngsters they are banking on to build the new-look unit.

‘Just because Dhoni won the World Cup soon after he took charge…’- Ashwin urges fans to be patient with Rohit and Virat

"You might get a replacement for KL Rahul but it won't be that easy to find replacements for seasoned players (like Kohli and Rohit). Yes, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan might take their places in the future. But these are similar players with similar experiences, playing at the same time. Can these players take you to the T20 World Cup final?," Latif said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Latif admitted that the likes of Shubman Gil, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Deepak Hooda, and Ishan Kishan are wonderful players, but as per him, they lack the required experience and ability to perform on a big stage like an ICC event where the pressure is almost insurmountable.

"Gill, Shaw, Tripathi, Hooda, Ishan... can these players take you to the final? In yesterday's match (1st T20I vs NZ), there was a problem when they didn't have a senior player. If they had a senior player, he could've taken them past the finishing line. So, Hardik Pandya and Rahul Dravid might have to consider bringing at least one of the two (Rohit and Kohli) if not both in the mix," Latif opined.

The second T20I between India and New Zealand will be played on Sunday, January 29 in Lucknow.
