Mohammad Shami tests negative for Covid-19

Shami was ruled out of the Australia and South Africa T20I series due to Covid.

He has been named as a reserve player in India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.

Umesh Yadav, who was originally meant to undergo rehab for a quad injury in Bengaluru, was called into the squad as his replacement against Australia and now also against South Africa.

However, on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, Mohammad Shami took to his Instagram account and posted a story showing an RT-PCR test that confirmed that he had tested negative for Covid-19.

Credit: Mohammad Shami InstagramShami, 32, hasn’t played a T20I since November 2021. He had a rewarding IPL 2022 with Gujarat Titans - 20 wickets in 16 matches. It was earlier reported that the BCCI selectors had told Shami that he will not be considered for T20Is going forward and keeping his workload in mind in Tests and ODIs.

However, he was a surprising inclusion for the Indian T20 World Cup 2022 squad albeit as a reserve player.
