Narsingh Deonarine to captain American Indigos in the first season of GPCL

Narsingh Deonarine | GettyThere is a lot of buzz around the upcoming Global Power Cricket League (GPCL), scheduled to be played in Delhi from October 2 to October 9, 2022.

The inaugural edition of the T20 tournament will feature eight teams, each from different nationalities. The participating teams are from India, Australia, England, USA, Ireland, Scotland, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

In this article, we are focusing on the team from USA called ‘American Indigos’.

For a team to do well in any tournament, the captain’s role is extremely vital and Narsingh Deonarine has been given the responsibility to lead American Indigos in the GPCL T20.

Deonarine has represented the West Indies in 18 Tests, 31 ODIs, and 8 T20Is, scoring almost 1500 runs and taking 30 wickets across formats.

Narsingh Deonarine may not have got many chances in the West Indies team, but he is counted amongst the top performers in the Caribbean domestic circuit. In 136 First-Class matches, the southpaw has amassed 7467 runs with 11 centuries while he aggregated 2208 runs in 108 List A matches including 1 ton.

As far as his T20 exploits are concerned – Deonarine has scored 528 runs in 42 matches at a strike rate of 108.19 with two half-centuries.

His rich experience and presence in the dressing room will certainly help the youngsters in the American Indigos squad.

For the inaugural GPCL T20, American Indigos are slotted in Pool A alongside Indian Sapphires, English Reds, and Scottish Mulberries. They will open their campaign against Indian Sapphires on October 2.
