Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan on Wednesday (September 7) pipped his own teammate Babar Azam to become the new No.1 T20I batter in the world.
Babar, who was occupying the top spot for a while, has dropped down to second in the updated ICC T20I rankings for batters.
Rizwan is having a great time with the bat in the ongoing edition of the Asia Cup in UAE. The opening batter is currently leading the top run-getters chart.
In three matches so far, Rizwan has amassed 192 runs at an average of 96 and a strike rate of 128, including two half-centuries.
He was awarded Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock of 57-ball 78 in the group match against Pakistan at Sharjah. Rizwan followed it up with a match-winning knock of 71 in the Super-4 clash against arch-rivals India in Dubai.
Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis is another batter who has made giant strides in the latest rankings. He has moved up 18 places up to 42 in the rankings after his match-winning knocks against India and Afghanistan.
Suryakumar Yadav is the top-ranked Indian batter in the rankings. He occupies the fourth position after Rizwan, Babar and South Africa’s Aiden Markram.
Meanwhile, India skipper Rohit Sharma has jumped three places in the rankings to 14th after his stunning knock of 41-ball 72 in the Super-4 clash against Sri Lanka. Virat Kohli, however, has dropped two places to 29th after registering a duck against Sri Lanka on Tuesday (September 6).
