Batting ace Sachin Tendulkar was named captain of the defending champions India Legends for the second edition of the upcoming Road Safety World Series (RSWS), which will be held in four different cities across India from September 10 to October 1.
On Thursday, September 1, the organizers of the RSWS confirmed the availability of Tendulkar for the tournament as well as announced that he will captain India Legends side.
According to the media release, the Second Edition of the Road Safety World Series (RSWS) will be held in Kanpur, Raipur, Indore, and Dehradun. Kanpur will be hosting the season opener, and Raipur will host the two semifinals and final of the tournament.
The New Zealand Legends are the new entrants in the RSWS, where they will join the legends of India, Australia, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh, and England.
The RSWS has been organized to create awareness of road safety across the world, and the tournament is supported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Information and Technology and Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India.
India’s Sports Minister Anurag Thakur stated: “I am sure the Road Safety World Series will drive social change and work as an ideal platform to influence people's mindset towards their behavior on the road and road safety.”
Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari said: “The Road Safety World Series is a very good initiative to create awareness towards road safety through cricket. We want every individual in this country to be aware and obey every rule and regulation while on the road and for that to happen, we have to create awareness among the people, I strongly believe that this series will be able to do and achieve the goal of saving lives on Indian roads.”
