CSK announces name of its franchise in CSA T20 league; reveals first 5 signings

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) owned Johannesburg franchise in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) T20 League will be known as Johannesburg Super Kings (JSK) as officially confirmed on Sunday (August 21).

The league is set to take place in January-February 2023, and consists of six teams, all owned by Indian Premier League franchises.

The franchise has also announced its first five signings for the inaugural season of the new league, and they are Faf du Plessis (South Africa), Moeen Ali (England), Maheesh Theekshana (Sri Lanka), Romario Shepherd (West Indies) and Gerald Coetzee (South Africa).

Moeen and Theekshana were part of the CSK squad for the 2022 edition of the IPL while Faf du Plessis represented the franchise from 2018-2021 before moving on to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2022.

"As per the rules of CSA, we are eligible to take four players from the contracted list of players who are available... one marquee player from South Africa. From the balance three, not more than two can be from one country," said KS Viswanathan, CEO of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited.

He added, "We have decided to pick Faf, Moeen, Maheesh and Romario as the four players who have been contracted by Cricket South Africa. We are also allowed to take one development player from South Africa. We have decided on Gerald, as recommended by Faf."
