BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla confirms board will not allow Indian players to participate in foreign leagues

Many expected Indian players in UAE and CSA T20 leagues given IPL franchise owners' involvement.

BCCI VP Rajiv Shukla | IPL-BCCIAmidst the rumors of former India captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni joining the CSK-owned Johannesburg franchise in the CSA T20 League, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the board has no such policy of allowing Indian players in foreign leagues.

The BCCI has always protected its assets when it comes to allowing Indian players to participate in the foreign league, whether contracted or non-contracted. A player is only allowed to do so after he retires from international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Yuvraj Singh was the first player to do so when he played in the Canada T20 League after calling time on his India and IPL career a couple of years ago.

Shimron Hetmyer, Chris Lynn feature in Gulf Giants' initial squad for the inaugural ILT20

Rajeev Shukla, however, confirmed to ANI that BCCI will not allow its players to take part in any foreign cricket leagues.

"We do not provide our players to any other cricket league abroad. We have a straight policy regarding this. Our Indian Premier League is itself a huge league and we cannot allow any of our players to attach themselves to any foreign league in any manner," Shukla told ANI.

South Africa and UAE Cricket board have announced their T20 League, set to start next year. And various IPL franchise owners have invested in those leagues by buying teams.

With IPL franchises like Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders buying teams across these two leagues, many believed that Indian players contracted to these franchises would also feature in these two leagues.

But the BCCI has made sure that its players have their full focus on playing for India and in the IPL.
