Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s Test career picked up pace in 2019 when he was given the opportunity to open innings and he cemented his place in the team. However, before 2019, the right-hander wasn’t featuring regularly in the Test side and was playing as a middle-order batter.

However, Rohit’s place in the Indian Test team is now not only guaranteed but he is also the leader. Recently, veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik revealed that Rohit's confidence took a major hit when he was overlooked for India's Test series in England in the summer of 2018.

He further revealed that when Rohit was sent back to India after the completion of the limited-overs series, he was hurt as he was not expecting to be dropped from the Test side.

Speaking on Cricbuzz's docu-series Summer Stalemate, Dinesh Karthik said: “He had almost gone down the path where he was so successful as a white-ball cricketer. He was happy doing that.”

He signed off by saying, “And when he did come back into the Test team, you've got to remember in 2018, he was dropped from the Test team. He was sent back after the white-ball leg and that really hurt him. Rohit Sharma did not see that coming and that really tore him to shreds.”
