The South African fast bowler Duanne Olivier will miss the upcoming three-Test series against England after suffering from an injury. The Test series will begin from August 17 onwards.
This is a big blow to South Africa which is already fretting over the fitness of pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada who has been struggling with an ankle injury and had to miss the two-match T20I series against Ireland due to the same.
Olivier suffered from a grade 2 right hip flexor muscle tear which happened during South Africa's four-day tour game against the England Lions in Canterbury.
Giving an update on Olivier's injury, team doctor Hashendra Ramjee said, "Duanne presented with significant discomfort involving his right hip flexor muscle at the close of play on day three of the four-day tour match. After clinical assessment, he was referred for an MRI scan which revealed a grade 2 tear involving the right pectineus muscle.
Due to the extent of the injury, he has been ruled out of the three-match Test series against England and will return home where he will commence his rehabilitation with the Gauteng Central Lions medical team."
The three Test matches will be played between 17 August to 12 September at Lord's, Old Trafford, and The Oval.
