BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal opened up about Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma debate. He said that it’s only the fans who talk about this as they are passionate about the game. Dhumal said that the board never gives attention to such debate.

Indian cricket has been blessed with two of the finest modern-day cricketers in Virat and Rohit. It’s fair to say that the duo has single-handedly carried the team on their shoulders for the last decade and is still going strong.

They are one of the main reasons behind Team India being dominant in all three formats of the game. Both Rohit and Kohli possess a great fan following all across the globe and their fans have also engaged in banters related to who’s best among the duo.

Although, rumors related to the rift between the duo emerge every now and then the fact that they both play for the same team has overshadowed all the debates.

Speaking to veteran Journalist Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, Arun Dhumal dismissed the rumors as emotional fans "speaking their heart". He compared it to similar reports of rifts between other greats of Indian cricket and said the amplification on social media makes "people believe all this is true."

"We never think about it. It is the passion of fans that drives them and this debate. When you are attached to an emotion, then you tend to say all that. And social media is a platform where you can talk about anything. They speak their heart out because there are no restrictions.

“That is why people think it persists. We saw the same with Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, or later between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar. On social media, matters amplify to an extent that people believe all this is true,” Arun Dhumal said.

Both Kohli and Rohit are likely to play a vital role for Team India in the upcoming Asia Cup and T20 World Cup 2022. They together have batted in 82 innings and scored 4914 runs at an average of 63.81. This includes 15 fifty and 18-century partnerships with a best of 246.
