England's limited-overs team’s head coach, Matthew Mott, has reacted to his team’s 1-2 defeat in a three-match T20I series against South Africa at home.

As England ended their home summer without a win in limited-overs cricket for the first time since 2013, Mott said that it was really disappointing for them and he had some words with the new captain, Jos Buttler. He also said that this is a line in the sand moment for the team.

England’s back-to-back series defeats in T20I cricket raised questions over their chances for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022, but the coach stressed that his team will return to winning ways.

He said they will gain some confidence from The Hundred 2022 before heading to Pakistan for seven T20Is, and they will be a different team for the T20 World Cup 2022.

Matthew Mott stated: “It was disappointing. I thought we put ourselves in a good position to win the series and we'll have to take a lot out of that game. I've just spoken to Jos (Buttler) very briefly and this is a line in the sand moment for the team.”

He added, “We'll want to draw some experience from and use The Hundred really well to get that confidence so when we get ready for Pakistan and the World Cup we're a bit of a different team.”
