WI v IND 2022: "Kuch thought process raha hoga," Bhuvneshwar's answer to why Suryakumar opened in 1st T20I

Suryakumar Yadav made 24 in 16 balls in 1st T20I opening the innings with Rohit Sharma.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar joined the Indian team for the five-T20I series in West Indies after he was rested for the three-match ODI series beforehand. India registered a brilliant 68-run victory in the first match in Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on July 29 to go 1-0 up.

While India rested Virat Kohli and missed KL Rahul due to injury in the series, Rohit Sharma walked out to open the innings with a new partner in Suryakumar Yadav. The team management has been experimenting with the opening combination with Ishan Kishan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, and Rishabh Pant doing the duties in the previous few matches.

Veteran India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar himself seemed to be surprised at the move as he gave an astonishing answer when asked about the reasons behind India's decision of opening with Suryakumar in the series opener.

"What was the thought process behind sending Suryakumar Yadav to open especially when the team had opened with Pant and Hooda previously," was the question asked to Bhuvneshwar in the pre-match virtual press conference ahead of the second T20I.

"I really don't know. Itna pata hai ki zaroor kuch thought process raha hoga (All I know that there must have been some thought process behind it). It surely wasn't random. I'm sure whatever the coach and captain want to achieve something out of this. Honestly, I don't know what exactly was the thought process behind it but I'm sure there must've been some deep thinking," Bhuvneshwar said.

Suryakumar looked good for his 16-ball 24 while opening for India for the first time.
