West Indies spinner Sunil Narine said that he has yet lost his hopes of making comeback to international cricket despite not playing for the side since 2019.
He has been doing well in the domestic leagues across the world but was not picked for the last year’s T20 World Cup. The 34-year-old said that it is tough for him to watch the West Indies play while being on the sidelines, but he hopes to sport maroon again.
Narine made his debut for the West Indies in 2011, and went on to play 122 matches and snared 165 international wickets so far. The senior spinner last played for West Indies in 2019.
Sunil Narine was quoted as saying in Cricket Monthly: “There's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff going on, which I don't really want to get into, but I mean, everybody would love to represent their country. It's a hard thing watching them knowing that you want to be part of it and you're not part of it.”
He signed off by saying, “Things happen for a reason, and hopefully, in the future, I'll be wearing maroon again, but until then, I'd still love to play for the Windies. We shall see when that opportunity comes, but there will never be a no for West Indies.”
Narine has picked up 21, 92, and 52 wickets in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is respectively, with five four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls to show for his efforts.
