Former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener has been named the head coach of the Durban franchise in Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) new franchise T20 league, which is scheduled to be held in January-February 2023.

According to a media release, the RPSG Group-owned Durban franchise signed up Klusener as the head coach for the inaugural edition of CSA’s new T20 league, where all six franchises have been bought by IPL team owners, including Mumbai Indians' Reliance Group.

Notably, the RPSG Group owns a franchise, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), in the IPL.

The new domestic T20 league will be run by CSA in partnership with SuperSport, the TV broadcaster.

Meanwhile, Klusener, who played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa during his career, is looking forward to the new role in the new franchise league. He is excited about building up the new team.

Lance Klusener said in a statement issued by the RPSG group: “This is a new challenge for me. It makes me very proud. I am looking forward to meet the team.”

Notably, Klusener has been involved in coaching across the world. He worked with Zimbabwe as a batting coach from 2016 to 2018, and earlier this year, he rejoined the side in the same capacity.

The former all-rounder also worked with South Africa as assistant batting coach and with Afghanistan as their head coach in international cricket. He worked with Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and with Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
