After announcing his Test retirement in 2019 to prolong his white-ball career, Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir eventually bid adieu to international cricket in 2020, citing that he was “being mentally tortured” by the team management.
Back then, the left-arm pacer had said that he will not make himself available for selection until Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis were in charge of the national team.
Coming to the present, Amir hasn't closed doors on his comeback, given the proviso that his concerns are being addressed. His decision also has a lot to do with Ramiz Raja's appointment as the PCB chairman for a three-year term in September 2021.
Despite the exit of Imran Khan as Prime Minister, Ramiz is still holding the PCB chief post and it remains a huge obstacle in Amir’s return to international cricket.
Speaking to SAMAA TV, Amir questioned Ramiz for changing his stance after the ouster of Imran Khan.
"Mera aur Ramiz Raja ka bohot puraana pyaar hai jo khatam nahi hoga (Our relationship goes back a long way and it won't end). It's understandable why I took back my retirement when he (Raja) took charge," the 30-year-old said.
"His stance doesn't change for other people but the rule doesn't apply to him. If you see his old videos, he had said that he wouldn't stay for a minute if Imran Khan left. His stance about leaving has changed now. Jaan chali jaaye but kursi naa jaye (He won't give up his position no matter what). Kursi toh sabko pyari hoti hai. Enjoy karne dein unko (Everyone loves being in a powerful position. Let him enjoy)," he added.
Earlier, Mohammad Amir had said his case was 'portrayed in a wrong way' by the then management, further adding that the former PCB CEO Wasim Khan assured him of addressing his concerns.
“Wasim Khan visited my house before PSL 6’s second leg and we had a detailed discussion on my retirement. I shared all my concerns with him, and to be honest, he listened to them very seriously. My case was portrayed in a wrong way by the current management," Amir was quoted saying by ARY Sports.
