Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar feels it is unlikely that senior opener Shikhar Dhawan won't find a place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.
The T20 World Cup 2022 is just a few months away now and there’s no doubt that the Indian selectors will have a dilemma about who to choose and who not to.
Dhawan has found himself out of the Indian T20I set-up lately. His last appearance in the shortest format was during the Sri Lanka tour last year, when he was handed the leadership responsibilities.
However, despite consistently scoring runs in the IPL, Dhawan has failed to make the cut. The southpaw’s record in the IPL has been staggering as well.
He has been one of the top-run getters in the last few years and has scored over 300 runs in almost every season since 2015. He scored 460 runs for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022.
With his performances, he’s continuously knocking on the doors of selectors for the Indian T20 side and it was expected that he’ll make a comeback in the just-concluded T20I series against South Africa. But that wasn’t the case as he was yet again ignored.
There were also reports that head coach Rahul Dravid has conveyed to the senior batter that he won’t be considered for the T20Is as the management is looking at the future.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that chances are very few for Shikhar Dhawan to get included in the Indian T20I side and hence he can’t see the left-hander in T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
The former Indian skipper also named his opening combination for the World Cup in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
"No. I don't see his name popping up. If it had to pop up, it would have been in this squad. A lot of guys have gone to England, and he could have been in this squad. If he is not in this squad, I don't see him ending up in the mix (for the T20 World Cup). My opening combination would have KL Rahul if he's fit and Rohit Sharma alongside him," he said.
Dhawan was not even named in the squad that will tour Ireland for two-match series. He’s likely to be part of the ODI squad that will play in England next month.
