WI v BAN 2022: West Indies squad for first Test against Bangladesh announced

The West Indies are all set to host Bangladesh in a multi-format series in June-July 2022 and will play two Tests, three T20Is, and five ODIs, with the tour beginning with the first Test on June 16 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The first Test will be held in Antigua on June 26, with the second and final test beginning on June 24 at the Darren Sammy Stadium in St. Lucia.

The hosts will announce the squad for the limited-overs series later. The first and second T20I will be held at the same venue – Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica on July 2 and 3, while the Guyana National Stadium will host the third and final T20I on July 7.

The three-match ODI series is scheduled to be played in Guyana on July 10, 13, and 16, respectively.

On Thursday, June 9, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the 12-member squad for the first Test of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

The West Indies squad featured three uncapped players in Devon Thomas, Gudakesh Motie, and Anderson Phillip. All-rounder Raymon Reifer also found a place in the national squad, as Jason Holder was rested for the entire Bangladesh series on his request.

West Indies lead selector Desmond Haynes stated: “Devon Thomas has been knocking on the door for quite some time. He has done extremely well in our franchise cricket system and we view this as a good opportunity to give him a go.”

He added, “So again, we are giving opportunities to guys who are performing. We think Gudakesh Motie is one of those guys who is also bowling well, and we think it will be a good opportunity for him to be involved.”

Experienced fast bowler Kemar Roach is to undergo a fitness assessment as he recovers from an injury sustained in the English County Championship with Surrey. If he is passed fit, he will be included as the 13th player in the Test squad.

Meanwhile, the son of former West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Tagenarine Chanderpaul was picked in the Test squad as a reserve, along with Shermon Lewis.

Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, John Campbell, Joshua Da Silva (WK), Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Gudakesh Motie, Anderson Phillip, Raymon Reifer, Jayden Seales, Devon Thomas (WK).

Reserves: Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Shermon Lewis.
