Having made his India debut in 2018, Rishabh Pant has come a long way. The 24-year-old has established himself as the country’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter across all three formats.

In the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, starting June 9, Pant has been appointed as the vice-captain of Team India.

Ahead of the five-T20I series, Pant opened up on three qualities one needs to excel as a wicketkeeper-batter.

"I think one quality would be, you keep yourself agile, because in wicketkeeping you do different type of conditions. So if you are agile enough that's going to help a wicketkeeper. Second thing, watch the ball till the end. So, sometime what happens as a wicketkeeper we tend to know that the ball is coming and we become relaxed. So, till the time you catch the ball you should be watch it," Pant said in a podcast on SGTV.

"And the third one is - be disciplined and keep working on your techniques. Everyone has different technique but at the same time if you can come closer to the base, that is going to help everyone."

Pant's wicketkeeping skills have also improved by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. In the podcast, the southpaw revealed how he took to wicketkeeping early.

"I am trying to give my 100 per cent in each game. I was always a wicketkeeper batsman. As a kid I started doing wicketkeeping. My father was a wicketkeeper too. That's how I started wicketkeeping," Pant said.

Rishabh Pant will be in the spotlight in the T20I series against South Africa as he endured a below-par IPL 2022 while leading the Delhi Capitals (DC). On the other hand, Dinesh Karthik took the IPL by storm while playing for RCB and as a result, the veteran wicketkeeper made his comeback to the national side after three years.
