India consolidate top position at ICC Men's T20I Rankings for teams

Team India extended their lead from one rating point to five over second-ranked England.

Indian cricket team | GettyTeam India have consolidated their position at the top of the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings following the annual update, released on Wednesday (May 4).

As per the updated rankings, the Rohit Sharma-led side has extended their lead from one rating point to five over England, who are occupying the second spot.

“The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2019, with those completed prior to May 2021 weighted at 50 per cent and subsequent series weighted at 100 per cent,” ICC said in an official release.

After their dismal T20 World Cup 2021 campaign, the Indian team has dominated the shortest format, beating New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka at home under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, who took charge from Virat Kohli post the global event last year.

While England are on second place with 265 rating points, Pakistan complete the top three with 261 rating points.

South Africa, ranked fourth, have gained a spot – maintaining their old rating points (253) – whereas Australia too have moved up a ladder and now sit at fifth, maintaining their rating points (251).

New Zealand have dropped two places to No.6, losing five rating points (250) while West Indies (240 points) retain their seventh spot.

Bangladesh (233 points) and Sri Lanka (230 points) have both advanced one position in the chart to claim the eighth and ninth positions, respectively. Afghanistan have slipped two slots, rounding out the top 10 after losing six rating points (226).
