India captain Rohit Sharma and star speedster Jasprit Bumrah have been named among five players in Wisden’s "Cricketers of the Year" list. Rohit and Bumrah are the only two Indian cricketers in the elite list of the five players in the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack 2022.
England's Joe Root has been named the leading cricketer in the world, while South African women's team batter Lizelle Lee has been awarded the title of leading woman cricketer.
Apart from Rohit and Bumrah, New Zealand batter Devon Conway, England’s bowler Ollie Robinson, and South African Women star Dane van Niekerk are the other three players who have been named in the Wisden's 'Cricketers of the Year' in the 2022 Almanack.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan has claimed the title of leading T20 cricketer in the world. Rizwan had a record-breaking 2021, wherein he scored 1,329 runs at 72.88 in 27 T20s with the help of a century and 11 fifties. He also became the first cricketer in international cricket to score over 1,000 T20 runs in a calendar year.
On the other hand, Root scored 1,708 runs in a calendar year in Test cricket. His scores are the third most in history. Rohit had an exceptional summer for India, scoring 368 runs in 4 Tests, while Bumrah impressed in England, helping India to take a 2-1 lead in the Test series.
Lizelle Lee averaged 90.28 with the bat in ODI cricket in 2021. She scored 288 runs in four innings against India.
