India batter KL Rahul has made a shocking revelation that his mother lied to him about his name ‘Rahul’ being derived from Shah Rukh Khan’s characters in his movies.

‘Rahul’ is one of the most popular names in India and even one of the legends of Indian cricket Rahul Dravid is one of the most popular ‘Rahuls’, his Karnataka statemate KL Rahul didn’t derive his name from his senior cricketer.

However, in an interview with Gaurav Kapur on his show, Breakfast With Champions, KL Rahul revealed that his mother lied to him about how he was named after Shah Rukh Khan’s characters in his movies.

Her story was that she was a huge Shah Rukh Khan fan and his characters in the 90s were Rahul, right? So, I used to go with that story. I told one of my friends. who watches probably a lot of Bollywood movies, and he said, 'Bro, Shah Rukh's first character as Rahul was in 1994. You're born in 1992. So, it doesn't make sense',” Rahul said on the show.

KL Rahul did his own snooping on the internet, after a friend told him that the first time Shah rukh Khan was named Rahul in a movie was in 1994 and he was born in 1992, so that cannot be the reason.

When he went to ask her about the same, she said: “Something like that... Who cares now!

Meanwhile, Rahul’s father has his own version of how his name originated. Rahul revealed that his father was a huge fan of Sunil Gavaskar. Since Gavaskar named his son Rohan, his father also wanted to name his son 'Rohan'. However, KL Rahul's father misheard Rohan as Rahul and ended up giving his son the wrong name.

Not only this, Rahul also told Gaurav that his parents were not happy with his advancement as a cricketer despite the fame and the money and were only satisfied when he landed a job with the RBI.

The happiest they've been is when I got an RBI job. Got a central government job, so they were happy. I had played four years for India already but that didn't make them happy. This was like, yes now you'll be stable," he revealed on the show.
