Harbhajan Singh filing his papers for Rajya Sabha as AAP nominee | TwitterThe Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has nominated former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh for the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. Five Rajya Sabha seats in Punjab will fall vacant next month and today (March 21) is the last day to file nomination.

AAP won 92 of Punjab's 117 assembly seats. After the upcoming Rajya Sabha election, AAP's strength in the upper house is set to increase from three to eight.

Apart from Harbhajan Singh, AAP has also nominated Delhi Jal Board vice-chairman Raghav Chadha, IIT professor Dr. Sandeep Pathak and Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, Ashok Mittal, and founder of Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Care Charitable Trust, Sanjiv Arora for the Upper House of Parliament.

Harbhajan Singh, 41, had met with former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu before the elections, fueling speculation of his debut in politics as a Congress member. But the former cricketer had denied it.
