Batting great Sachin Tendulkar on Wednesday (9th March) acknowledged MCC’s rule change on Mankad dismissal. He said that he was always uncomfortable with the dismissal being called 'Mankading'.

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on Wednesday made changes to the cricket laws, that will be effective from 1st October 2022. One of the major changes was in the run out laws.

Running out the batter at the non-striker’s end by the bowler if he leaves the crease before the ball is delivered, which is known as ‘Mankad’, has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Run out).

“Law 41.16-running out the non-striker- has been moved from Law 41 (Unfair play) to Law 38 (Run out). The wording of the Law remains the same,” the MCC said in a media statement.

In a video posted on his Twitter account, Sachin Tendulkar welcomed Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)'s amendments to the run out law. He said that 'Mankading' should always have been run out.

“New rules have been introduced in cricket by the MCC committee and I am quite supportive of a couple of them. The first one being the Mankading dismissal. I was always uncomfortable with that particular dismissal being called Mankaded

“I am really happy that it’s been changed to run out. It always should have been run out according to me. So this is one good news for all of us. I was not comfortable with it all but that won’t be the case anymore,” Sachin Tendulkar said.

Sachin Tendulkar captioned the video: Cricket is a beautiful sport. It allows us to challenge existing norms and help refine laws of the game. Some of the changes introduced by MCC are praiseworthy.”

Apart from Mankad, the MCC banned the use of saliva to shine the ball. They also made a change in which a new batter will take the strike  after a caught dismissal even if the players have crossed.
